Olympic Roots of Eventing

Eventing - Olympic Sport

The Three-Day Event

The Three-Day Event is the triathlon of equestrian events. Sometimes called horse trials and three phase, eventing comprises of the triathlon of dressage, cross-country and stadium jumping. This discipline is the most demanding physically on both horses and riders. The stamina and bravery of the noble horse is unsurpassed in any other equestrian event. This discipline has military roots in training the horse, when soldiers needed brave and fit horses to be victorious in battle.

Combined Training is comprised of the Dressage and Show Jumping phases and is a diminutive of Eventing.

Equestrian Sport is currently the only Olympic challenge where men and women compete on equal terms and where animals, horses, are used in competition.
